Usain Bolt 200m: He Did It Again!!!

Okay, I was convinced last year at the Beijing Olympics that this guy was an absolute freak of nature but…..have mercy!!! It still amazes me how a 6′5″ man is able to get out of the blocks just as quickly as his shorter competition. This is the first sub-19:30 finish in history and now the talks are if he will be able break 19:00 seconds. If ever I saw that…..I’m done.

What’s funny is that there are talks that some of the older sprinters are talking about retiring because there is no way that they can compete with the times that Bolt has run. Barring injury, Bolt could reasonably set records that will never be broken unless we run track in Heaven. He’s only 23 years old!!! Anyways, I digress. Here is last nights video.

Sunday, August 16, 2009 was a huge sports day. Watching Tiger give up the PGA Tour Championship with some shaky putting would have been enough. But one of the most watched interviews ever in recent memory aired right after. For 15 minutes we watched Michael Vick speak about his experience with dog fighting and how his 23 month sentence changed his life.

Going on the 60 Minutes web site I found some extended clip footage that didn’t air during the interview. These videos are from their site. The full interview is 15 minutes and the extended clips are short.

Usain Bolt: The Fastest Man In The World

Okay this guy just continues to impress me and mash up the record books. On Sunday, August 16, 2009 Usain “Lightning” Bolt broke his previous 100 meter dash record of 9.69 (set at the Beijing Olympics in 2008) by running a ridiculous 9.58. He has been quoted as saying that he could run a 9.50 and this is darn close.

Sadly I can hear the questions coming; Is Bolt doping? You can’t blame skeptics for the question seeing that all sports have been hit by doping scandals in recent years. But as long as they continue to test him and find nothing then I’m believing in Usain Bolt.

The race was remarkable on many fronts. Tyson Gay, the American record holder, versus Usain Bolt, the world record holder; Asafa Powell, the veteran who continues to come up short in the big races; a 6′5″ phenom who has taken the sport by storm and has essentially become the David Beckham of Track and Field. The storylines made it hard to turn the channel.

How a 6′5″ man is able to run at such high speeds and separate from the pack like he does is amazing. The video below is courtesy of NBC Sports and the Versus Network. Give me you thoughts.

Mike Vick Goes To The Birds…

Well unless you have been sleeping under a pile of boulders you have heard by now that Michael Vick is now on an NFL roster. On Thursday he signed a 1-year deal with an option for a second year. The potential earnings of the contract is over $6 million.

My thoughts on signing are simple. I am happy that someone who made many mistakes is getting another opportunity. I never agreed with his jail sentence but I understood why he received the length of time he did. Not only did he break the laws of the land but he also broke the laws of trust. He lied to many people over and over.

As for Mike Vick the football player, let’s just hope that he learns from how he carried himself before. The laziness, the lack of focus, the lack of interest in becoming the best player he could be, and all of his other missteps have no place in this “Mike Vick” era.

The burning question in sports for the past few weeks has been “Will Mike Vick see NFL action this season?” The answer….who knows. To this point only one team has “publicly” expressed interest in the 29 year old former Atlanta Falcons quarterback.

Tony Dungy, who has been tapped as Vick’s mentor, has been on a media tour this week basically trying to help the public image of Vick. Dungy is on record as saying that Vick is close to getting a deal done as early as this week. Check out this video and related article from ESPN.com.
